Hose container types

Hytrans offers three primary types of hose containers, each designed for efficient hose storage, deployment, and adaptability in emergency response scenarios:

  • Hose Layer Containers
Full-width hose containers that maximize hose capacity, allowing for the deployment of a large volume of hoses from a single unit.
  • CombiContainer platforms
A flexible solution combining a half-width hose container (fixed installation) with a half-width storage space for a mini container module. This space can accommodate additional units based on the specific incident or disaster, such as a mobile pump unit, an extra HoseBox, or a FloodModule. The CombiContainer platform enhances operational flexibility, enabling responders to adapt quickly to the specific emergency.
  • HoseBox Containers
Compact skid containers designed for hose storage and deployment. The HoseBox can be transported on a CombiContainer or a DuoContainer. The DuoContainer, capable of carrying up to two mini containers, offers maximum flexibility for risk management and emergency response.

Efficient hose recovery solutions

Hytrans offers two advanced hose recovery modules, designed for safe and efficient hose retrieval:

  • HoseRecoveryUnit (HRU) – Available in two sizes (HRU200 and HRU300), the HRU enables the safe retrieval of hoses, including their couplings, with manual guidance. The system supports the controlled, manual flaking, neatly storing hoses in the designated compartment with human supervision.
  • AutoFlaker – A fully automated system that retrieves and flakes hoses efficiently without requiring manual activities inside the container. The retrieval unit moves back and forth as well as side to side, ensuring optimal hose storage with minimal effort.

Designed for ease of use

With Hytrans’ decades of expertise, our hose handling systems are designed for reliability and ease of use, making it invaluable for emergency teams worldwide. Use the sidebar to find more detailed information about each solution.

Hose Recovery Units

The Hose Recovery Units (HRU) provides an excellent high speed, low labour and low cost hose retrieving operation. The unique and patented hydraulic driven system of our HRU enables you to pick up hoses up to 12” (300 mm) – including couplings –  in a continuous way. Electronic sensors detect the coupling and open the hydraulically operated rollers automatically one by one to let the coupling pass.

Product features

The HRU’s are powered by the truck hydraulics or by a diesel-driven powerpack. It can pick up the hose from one side (preferably driver’s side) of the vehicle.

It comes into operational position by just a push of a button. This operation can be done while the container is on the truck, to allow a safe operation. The HRU pulls the hoses into the HoseLayer container and two operators flake the hose. The compact design makes it possible to retrofit most of the existing Hytrans hose containers with this HRU.

Two types of Hose Recovery Units

  • HRU 200
The HRU 200 handles hoses with a diameter of 4″ up to 8″ (100 mm up to 200 mm). This unit is available in combination with the Hytrans CombiContainer or with a HoseLayerContainer. The HRU 200 is installed in the front cabinet of the Hytrans hose handling container and picks up the hose from the driver’s side of the vehicle.
  • HRU 300
The HRU 300 handles hoses with a diameter of 8″ up to 12″ (200 mm up to 300 mm). This unit is available in combination with the Hytrans CombiContainer or with a HoseLayerContainer. The HRU 300 is available as a Power Tilt or Demountable version. The Power Tilt is placed in operational position by means of a hydraulic cylinder. The Demountable needs to be placed in position by lifting it by a separate crane and place it into the holder on the hose handling container. This basic version can be exchanged between multiple hose containers by means of a crane.

Fully automatic flaking required?

For even more efficiency, Hytrans provides the AutoFlaker. A unit that retrieves and flakes the coupled hoses automatically. No manpower needed inside the container as the unit goes back and forth as well as left and right to flake the hose. Read more about this unique Hytrans solution here.

HoseBox

The HoseBox is a skid mounted container for the transport of hoses including couplings. The capacity is variable but can be for example 1000m of 6’(150mm) hose. The HoseBox is designed for hooklift transport and can be transported directly on a suitable hooklift on our DuoContainer or CombiContainer.

Features

The HoseBox has stainless steel side walls and a chequered aluminium floor. Lifting eyes are provided on both sides of the container for hook arm lifting systems and also for crane helicopter lifting. Always fitted with our patented HoseBlocs to prevent hoses shifting during container handling.

AutoFlaker

The AutoFlaker is a highly efficient automated hose recovery system, that only needs one person to automatically retrieve hoses up to  12″ (300mm) in diameter.

No manpower needed

The AutoFlaker retrieves and flakes the connected hose automatically and efficiently. No manpower is required in the hose as the retrieval unit moves back and forth as well as left and right to flake the hose. It can be used with the HRU200 or the HRU300.

Efficient flaking of the coupled hoses

The special designed containers allows the AutoFlaker to move back and forth and left and right over the container, to flake the coupled hose in the most efficient way. The AutoFlaker is demountable and can be moved from one container to the other.

No need to disconnect hoses

Another unique feature is that the AutoFlaker’s HRU is equipped with double pressure rollers that automatically open to allow the hoses to pass through. This function is controlled by computerised electronic eyes. The HRU will recover any hose up to 12″ (300 mm) with all standard couplings.

High speed hose deployment

Want to use the AutoFlaker in combination with a full-size HoseLayerContainer compartment or CombiContainer? No problem. The containers can be handled by a truck with a hook arm lifting system and are designed for high speed hose deployment (up to 40 km/hr) and maximum storage of hose length.

Hydraulic power supply

The AutoFlaker is hydraulically driven by the PTO of the truck with hook arm lift off system.
It is also possible to mount a diesel driven powerpack in the front cabinet of the container, so the container can operate completely autonomous.

Remote control

Controlled by a dedicated Hytrans remote control, the AutoFlaker is suitable for all environments. A wireless remote control selects the hose compartments, prepares the unit for flaking and starts the automated flaking process. After recovery, the flaker is returned to the transport position.

DuoContainers

The DuoContainers are platforms that can carry two container modules such as Hytrans mobile pump units (HydroSub 150 or HydroSub 250), HoseBoxes, FloodModules or PowerFoams. The platforms offer maximum flexibility for risk management and emergency response.

Two sizes of Duo Containers

The DuoContainers (DC) are mounted on an A-frame with hook arm facility and is available in two standard sizes, DC5500 and DC6500. Both can be equipped with storage facilities for Hardware (PWSE) in either a low cabinet or high cabinet.

The advantage of the DC6500 in regards to the DC5500 is the extra cabinets for storage. In the high cabinet version the HRU is placed inside the upper cabinet, this is the HRU 200 Power Tilt. The HRU 300 Power Tilt or Demountable version can only be placed on the low cabinet version.

Hose deployment with HoseBox

Hoses can be stored and deployed on the DuoContainer platform using Hose Boxes. The aluminium door of the HoseBox can be used as a step when opened. During hose laying the opening mechanism is mechanically locked. With open doors the hose can be deployed with high speed (up to 40 km/h).

Stainless steel protection plates mounted on strategic positions prevent damage of the paint during hose recovery. Due to the special construction and the use of light weight materials such as aluminium floors and roof panels, the DuoContainer is easy to handle. The patented HoseBlocs in the HoseBox prevent the hose from shifting during container handling.

CombiContainers

The Hytrans CombiContainers consist of a fixed installed hose compartment and a storage space for one container module. This space can be used to carry a mobile pump unit (HydroSub 150 or HydroSub 250), a separate HoseBox or a FloodModule.

Three sizes of Combi Containers

The CombiContainers (CC) are mounted on an A-frame with hook arm facility and are available in three standard sizes, CC5500, CC6000, and CC6500. The CC6500 is the longest CombiContainer and has more storage capability for both hoses and Hardware. For example, it is possible to store 2000 meter of 6″ (150 mm) hose in the hose compartment of the CC6500. The CC5500 can carry 1500 meter 6″ (150 mm) hose.

All Combi Containers come with storage compartments and our unique patented HoseBlocs as described below.

Storage compartments

The cabinet, mounted at the front has lockable access doors on each side, providing storage compartments for associated Hardware (Portable Water Supply Equipment –  PWSE) or additional (short) hoses. By design, the top compartment before the hose compartment is suitable to have the HoseRecoveryUnit (HRU200) fitted.

Patented HoseBlocs

The door of the hose compartment can open 270º and can be mechanically locked. The roof doors are made of anodised aluminium panels and equipped with gas springs for easy opening and functioning as a safety railing when deployed. Stainless steel protection plates mounted on strategic positions prevent damage of the paint during hose recovery.

Due to the special construction and the use of lightweight materials such as aluminium floors and roof panels, the CombiContainer is easy to handle. The patented HoseBlocs in the hose compartment prevent the hose from shifting during container handling.

Hose Layer Containers

The Hytrans Hose Layer Containers are available in various sizes. Fully mobile, these units are specially designed to carry a large quantity of hose and constructed in such a way that deployment can be done at high speed.

Two sizes of Hose Layer Containers

The HoseLayerContainers (HLC) are available in two sizes, namely the HLC5500 and the HLC6500. Depending on the size it can store up to 3000 meter (HLC5500) or 4000 meter (HLC6500) of 6” hoses. A middle wall divides the compartment in two, providing the possibility to deploy two hoses at the same time. Each compartment is equipped with the patented hose blocks and has a door that opens 270 degrees to the sides and allows the hose to leave freely.

Easy handling

Each container is equipped with a hookarm facility for easy handling. The HoseLayerContainer consist of full size hose compartments with stainless steel sides and an aluminium floor. The compartments can be fully closed by aluminium fold-up double-hinged top covers, functioning also as safety railing.

Handy storage compartments

The cabinet, mounted at the front has lockable access doors on each side, providing storage compartments for associated Hardware (Portable Water Supply Equipment –  PWSE).
