South Africa’s biggest private education group, Curro Holdings, has acquired a 50 percent stake in Botswana-based BA Isago University, as part of its goal to run 200 schools by the year 2020. Curro Holdings Ltd is the managing company of Curro Private Schools, Meridian Private Schools, and Select Prive Schools, providing education to children from three months old up to Grade 12. Curro has not revealed the cost of the stake but says the transaction will be done through its wholly owned subsidiary the Embury Institute for Higher Education. The institute is accredited for higher education and focuses on teacher education. Curro will fund the transaction through cash reserves and bank loans. The transaction will add 3,000 students to the 42,000 already at Curro campuses. Curro is building nine more campuses this financial year.
